• If your boiler develops a leak it is important you know where the location of the stopcock is in your property. This will allow you to shut off the supply of water to the property — hopefully minimising the damage that can be caused by a leak.
  • 1. Stopcocks are generally to be found under the sink, but in some properties can be located either in the front or back hall and in some cases it may be located in one of the kitchen units next to the sink.
  • 2. Stopcocks look like taps with a pipe going into it and a pipe coming out of it but without an outflow for the water.
  • 3. Ensure the tap mechanism is working properly by turnning it regularly.
  • 4. If you find a water leak in the heating system, turn the stopcock off. This is also good practice during holidays just in case a leak accident develops while you are away.
